Abstract

The Russia-Ukraine war has become a prominent international event that has attracted widespread global attention for several reasons. Some of these reasons are related to the parties involved in the conflict and its location: the conflict parties are Europeans (with 'white skin and blue eyes,' as some Western media have described), and the battleground is in Eastern Europe, not in Africa or the Middle East, for example. Other reasons are related to the repercussions of the Russia-Ukraine war, which affected global imports of food (wheat) and energy (oil and gas), posing a serious challenge to food and energy security for several countries, especially in Europe. All of this occurred at a time when countries around the world were still striving to recover from the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, both on health and the economy.
