Migration, Asylum, and Human Security Threats from the Perspective of Multidimensional Organized Crime

Abstract

    This research paper examines the phenomena of migration and asylum, as well as threats to human security, through the lens of multifaceted organized crime. It seeks to provide a comprehensive understanding of the repercussions and impacts of migration and asylum—specifically those linked to organized crime, such as terrorism, extremism, human trafficking, and drug trafficking—and explores how to address these challenges to bolster human security and stability in societies affected by migration and asylum. The paper analyzes how organized crime, operating through various channels within migration and asylum processes, contributes to the growth of threats—including terrorism and extremism—in host societies. It further investigates how extremist groups exploit migrants and refugees for their own agendas, examines the impact of human trafficking on victims and on social and political stability, and explores how organized crime utilizes irregular migration routes to facilitate drug smuggling. The study employs a descriptive-analytical approach to interpret the phenomena of migration and asylum, the influence of organized crime on human security in host countries, and strategies for strengthening security responses and stability in affected communities.
