تتميز منطقة آسيا الوسطى والقوقاز بموقع استراتيجي مهم على المستوى الدولي والاقليمي على حد سواء, وقد زاد من اهميتها الثروات المعدنية الهائلة التي تمتلكها واهمها النفط والغاز الطبيعي فضلا عن مواد مهمة اخرى اذ تسعى الولايات المتحدة إلى تعزيز هيمنتها على العالم, وتحييد القوى الكبرى المنافسة لها من خلال محاولة السيطرة على تلك المنطقة القريبة من الصين وروسيا, كما تعد روسيا المنطقة مجالها الحيوي ومنطقة نفوذها الذي ورثته عن الاتحاد السوفيتي ، اما الصين فتعد تلك المنطقة غاية في الاهمية على المستوى الأمني والاقتصادي، وتعدها الخاصرة الغربية لها، وان اي اضطرابات تحصل فيها تنعكس سلبا على امنها واستقرارها اما تركيا و ايران فتحاولان استغلال التقارب الثقافي والديني لتحقيق اهدافهما الاستراتيجية في المنطقة, وبذلك فان منطقة آسيا الوسطى تشكل اهمية استراتيجية كبرى لجميع القوى الدولية والاقليمية.
